Would you believe it?
It’s been a long time coming, but we have finally moved into our new pad in Barry.
Although I don’t yet have an official workspace setup for laptap as yet, I can begin prepping my space for photo shoots.
More on this coming real soon.
To celebrate the fact that we have finally moved in and have mostly unpacked everything, I figured it would be nice for us to crack open something ultra special and ultra fruity.
My next review is for a 750ml bottle of Rodenbach – Caractère Rouge 2013 (Limited Edition).
The beer itself is allowed to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries before having a further maceration stage within oak barrels for 2 years and finally a little fermentation within the bottle to hit the 7% ABV.
I’m not sure how limited these things of beauty are, but previous iterations were only produced in quantities of 900 bottles (750ml).
Lets get this fancy cork a’popping!
|Appearance||A dark pink to red colour and produces a small off white head on pouring. Although only a small head formed, it lasted surprisingly well against the style.
a lively looking beer with a small amount of haze. The colour of this beer is absolutely stunning against a lit backdrop.
|Aroma||The aroma was really complex. Blending lots of sweet & sour red berries with spicy aniseed, as well as elements of tobacco and leather from the ageing process in the barrel.
Really balanced and so darned pleasant.
|Flavour||The flavour had more in common with a burgundy wine than a berry sour.
An amazing mixture of the sweet and sour elements from the red berries with the cranberries taking centre stage.
All about the vibrant fruits when it comes down to the flavour.
|Mouthfeel||A rich and smooth mouth feel with enough zing to get the tongue tingling and enough flavour to get those taste buds rocking.
Offers a crisp and light level of carbonation.
|Overall||We had been holding onto this bottle for a fair old while and I have to say, it was absolutely worth the wait.
An absolute delight to drink with its unique balance of fruit and spice. If you come across Caractère Rouge on tap or in bottle, I urge you to get a sample or make a purchase.
You will not be disappointed.
