Imperial Stout • 13 % ABV • Stavanger, Norway Pinhais, Brazil
It’s time for something unique and special by one brewery that produce some pretty damned amazing beers from Norway and another brewery that, based on this beer, I need to taste more, based in Brazil.
Mixing vanilla beans, coco beans and the more unusual tonka bean, this stout promises to be a unique and complex taste experience with one hell of an ABV kick!
Today, I give you 3 Bean Stout by Lervig Aktiebryggeri & Way Beer
Time to pop it open and give it a whirl. Cheers!
3 Bean Stout is deep, dark and black as you like. The richness is so much so that there is no possible way of judging clarity. It does, however, produce a small brown head which settles quickly.
The aroma is really complex and unique with the mixture of the beans. Lots of vanilla comes in at the beginning, moves in with sweet chocolate then leads into a spicy marzipan (Almond) towards the end. Dark malts offer some toasted notes and the high ABV provides a little alcohol heat at the back of the throat. Almost sweet and savoury.
The chocolate, vanilla and the more unusual tonka beans which give the marzipan elements blend together well. Each offering their own flavours in a balanced way.
Coffee grounds from the malts moves in when the sweetness settles and a really smooth bitterness paves the way for a great finish.
3 Bean Stout is a full-bodied stout with a rich and slightly creamy texture. It gives a moderate level of carbonation and throws an alcohol heat which sticks with you all the way down.
This is one special beer and worth every penny. It really stands out from other stouts with its unique ingredients, aromas and flavours. The three beans offer their own strengths and balance well with the malts. 3 Bean Stout sums up umami in a beer perfectly. It’s one that you hold and sniff time and time again.
Unique and sexy!
